Easter Freebie and Gift Ideas for Easter

As we speed through March with the end of Term 1 just around the corner, we have had a few teachers reaching out to see if there would be a new Easter basket design this year and I am happy to say the Wingaru educators have not let you down! We love that our baskets have become a staple at this time of year, providing an opportunity to create awareness and opportunity to bring another First Nations perspective into the learning environment.

The story of the artwork on this year’s basket is one of connection. The coming together of families, the connection between mobs and at the centre, the people who make those connections happen. It is these connections that keep culture and communities strong - no matter what time of year it is.

As always I encourage you to yarn with students as you share this art and take a moment to colour together. It is these yarns and the ideas they share that can turn your Easter activity into a meaningful inclusion of Aboriginal perspectives.

Here are some prompts to encourage yarning as you colour:

Does your family celebrate Easter?
What does Easter look like in your house?
Do you see friends and family at Easter or during the Term 1 holidays?
What symbols are used in this artwork?
How does this artwork tell the story of connection?
How do the dots show connection?
Is there a meaning behind the colours you are choosing for your basket?
What are some of the ways Aboriginal people use eggs?
What will you put in your basket?
