Christmas Craft 2022
Can you believe December is here already! For me, 2022 is the year that passed while I blinked. It has flown by in a flurry of activity. Never enough hours in a day and a never-ending list of things to do. I know this is a feeling that teachers can relate to. There just isn’t enough time to get everything done and December arrives with a feeling of relief that a break is just around the corner but first you need to survive the year-end workload. There’s finalising of reports, parent teacher interviews, new class organisation, supporting students with the change that comes with the end of school year and transition to new classes, oh and, you know, the actual teaching. Wrapping up a year’s worth of work with students comes with rewards and challenges. Kids are tired, they can feel the holidays, and if my 10-year-old and his friends are anything to go by, they have embraced the “relax earlier this year” approach which introduces a new layer to student motivation!
But there is a bright side too. December also brings Christmas craft! Craft can buy you some time to get other tasks done while students are busy creating their masterpieces, but it can also give you some quality connect time with your class. I hope that you can find the time to sit and do the craft with your kids this year – the conversations and connection that happens over a craft table is so valuable and as the year ends this might be the last opportunity you get to connect with some of your students before they move on to new classes, schools and learning experiences.
We have another Christmas craft for you this year featuring artwork from Dharug artist Marlee Webb. Her work was such a hit last year and I hope you love this year’s ornaments just as much. You will also find previous years’ here: Christmas 2021, Christmas 2020 and Christmas 2019.
If you are a Wingaru Kids subscriber, we have a few new designs for you - check them out in the Additional Resources section of your dashboard along with all our Christmas craft ideas. Here you will also find our Christmas Craft Guide which is jam packed with curriculum links and ideas to explore that will help turn a simple craft activity into a meaningful inclusion of First Nations content.
